The story of the Black Stork golf resort began with the first golf experience of Ing. Jiří Hruška, who was in West Germany in 1984 when the government agreement with Ruhrgas was signed. “The document was being prepared on a golf course and that was when I first encountered this noble game. I liked it. My business partner played and I carried his clubs,” recalls the president of the Lomnica Golf Club Ing. Jiří Hruška and the founder of the golf resort.
In an effort to give the Tatras something extra, he decided to build a golf course under them. Enthusiasm for the cause helped him cope with the difficult times of unification and land acquisition in the vicinity of Veľká Lomnica. Courage and faith that it would work began to turn dreams into reality. Golf returned to the Tatras in 1999 on the first practice meadow. A year later, a natural 9-hole golf course was opened, and four years later a covered teeing ground was added. But things were already well underway, and 6 years later an 18-hole course with a new hotel and fantastic facilities for all golf lovers under the High Tatras was opened. Later, another nine came. The quality of the course is guaranteed by the supervision of the famous Austrian designer Hans Erhardt during construction. In 2011, the golf course received the prestigious A PGA Golf Course quality mark, becoming the 19th course in the world with this mark.
And what about the black stork itself, which gave the entire area its name? The story associated with it dates back to 2003. At the end of the golf season, a group of members of the Lomnica Golf Club were sitting on the terrace of the old clubhouse. Basking in the last rays of autumn sunshine, the idea of organizing a senior golf tournament came to one of the relaxing gentlemen. In an effort to bring the idea to fruition, those present began to think about a suitable name that would clearly localize the tournament and distinguish it from the competition. Then, from the huge number of ideas, the black stork emerged unobtrusively. This rare natural species regularly appears in the sky above the golf course, thanks to the nearby marshes. Its presence was certainly helped by the biozones with marsh and wetland communities, which were already marked out during the construction of the course and to which entry is prohibited. Thanks to the interplay of all these favorable circumstances, the black stork has become practically a traditional host for visitors to the golf resort, symbolically bearing its name.
